New Website

January 16, 2008

I have my new preliminary website. Not the greatest thing ever but it gets the point across while I wait for my web designer to finish up.  Go check it out at www.felicityevents.com

IKEA vaseSo today I made a pilgrimage to the holy site called IKEA. You never know what you will find in that place. I came home with a great vase for $2.50 and a placemat of natural woven materials for $.99!  Yes, I said $.99! I didn’t pick up any candles today but there are plenty to choose from. I just take my time walking through the aisles taking it all in letting the inspiration hit me. I know it sounds like a spiritual bargain hunting journey. So here is my tip for the day . . . GO TO IKEA!!

Tasteful in Vegas?

January 2, 2008

One word that doesn’t always come to mind when you think of Vegas is tasteful. However, I found just that on my recent trip just after Christmas. In my wanderings around sin city I came across some amazing holiday decorations at the Wynn Hotel. They were tasteful and modern without being over the top. Which is hard to find most places let alone Vegas!! Here are some of the pics. So many people had stopped to take pictures because it was beautiful.

A Confession

December 18, 2007

I am a Christmas Tree snob. I love the look of the perfect Christmas Tree. When I was a kid it made me crazy that my mother always wanted a “homemade” looking tree. She wouldn’t let me put any store bought ornaments on the tree. Even at a young age I knew I wanted the “perfect” tree. Maybe my strive for the perfect tree is because I love Christmas trees so much. How could you not like a majestic symbol of the best holiday of the year? Besides my birthday that is! The Christmas Tree draws everyone together to celebrate the joy of the season. So that is my confession. Merry Christmas!!

My New Logo

December 3, 2007

As you can see I now have my company logo! I’m so happy to to have one more piece of my business put together.

O.K. I found another web site w/ great invites. I love great stationary. I came across Mile Square Design and Loved the wedding designs. I think this one is my favorite.

One blog that I always read is from Saundra at Planning Forever. Today she had a great blog w/ some great points about the difference between on-site coordinators and wedding planners. Here is her post.

On today’s Fox 7 TV Segment with anchor person Sarah Brownlee we talked about On-Site Venue coordinators vs a Wedding Planner.
First let’s just get it out there, many of you will think I’m biased. Actually I adore on-site venue coordinators. Between the two of us, nothing slips through the cracks. There is one person for me to talk to instead of dealing with the banquet manager, wait staff, bartenders, and chef. I can concentrate on our mutual clients and the site coordinator can concentrate on the venue’s service and setup.
With that said, I think it is important to know the reality vs your expectations. So let’s keep it simple and review three main differences:
1. On-Site Coordinators are responsible for their venue. Their alliance and most important concern is their venue. The venue pays their salary. A wedding planner is responsible to you. This is a third party that is an advocate and a director of all your vendors and wishes.
2. On-Site Coordinators may have limited vendor referrals. Most of them will have a source of vendors that they love to use at their facility. Because this DJ doesn’t scratch their floors and this florist cleans up after themselves, etc, etc. Instead, a wedding planner knows many vendors that can fit into many different budgets and match client’s personalities. It’s our job to know GREAT vendors that may not advertise!
3. On-Site Coordinators are there only for the reception (or time at their venue). They are not a wedding planner that will take your 10pm etiquette phone calls, or attend a photographers meeting, or negotiate with a band or have a lots of design ideas and magazines for you to look at. A wedding planner is there from the planning stages, rehearsal, ceremony and to the reception.
Now that you have the facts, you can determine what your needs are.
Plan on! -saundra

great podcast from The Wedding Planning Audiocast interview with Linda Kessler!

I’m lucky enough to know a great florist who happens to go to my church. It’s amazing the things that can happen to a Harvest Party when you have an exceptional florist involved. Let’s just say it’s not your everyday mini pumpkins on the tables. You can check out more of April’s Work on her website http://www.petalworks.com . I have spent the summer helping her out and I have gotten a great education in flowers and seen great new ideas. Check out these great pics from today’s party.

My first blog

So life has been crazy! With a full time job, a part time job, going to school, and trying to start a new business I barley have time to sleep. I don’t know what I would give up though. I love it all.
